Kommentarer: ZZ Top bildades redan 1969 i Houston, Texas USA. De släppte 15 studioplattor mellan 1971 och 2012. Zz Top var mina första hjältar och kärleken till dem startade tidigt 90-tal med Greatest Hits som jag fick av min bror i julklapp. Tack, bror!

"ZZ Top played their first ever concert on February 10, 1970 at a Knights of Columbus Hall on the old US 90 outside of Houston. The gig was booked by Beaumont radio personality Al Caldwell of KLVI, who would later also broadcast the band's first recordings. When the curtains opened there was just one person in the audience. "There were moments when we thought: 'Are we making a mistake?' But there weren't many of them. At our rehearsal sessions they left us quaking in our boots because we were biting at the bit to use anything we could. But I think [Bill, manager/producer at the time] Ham had a couple of raised eyebrows. I like the analysis of drums to rockabilly – that could be what synthesisers are to blues bands today. They tried it and got away with it, we tried it and got away with it. And I'm curious what might be the next 'Oh, you can't do that' thing. The Ray Ban Wayfarer was the original cheap sunglasses. You could buy a pair for six bucks originally. I saw a catalog from 1959, and by then they were up to eight bucks. We had to take a bad rap from an optometrist who said 'Don't wear ZZ Top's cheap sunglasses. They're bad for your eyes.' "Did you ever see the movie, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas? That's what it's about. I went there when I was 13. A lot of boys in Texas, when it's time to be a guy, went there and had it done. Fathers took their sons there.

You couldn't cuss in there. You couldn't drink. It had an air of respectability. Miss Edna wouldn't stand for no bulls--t. That's the woman that ran the place, and you know she didn't look like Dolly Parton, either. I'll tell you, she was a mean-looking woman. But oil field workers and senators would both be there. The place had been open for over 100 years, and then this a--hole decides he's going to do an exposé and close it. And he stirred up so much s--t that it had to close.
La Grange is a little bitty town, and little towns in Texas are real conservative. But they fought against it. They didn't want it closed, because it was like a landmark. It was on a little ranch outside of town, the Chicken Ranch. Anyway, we wrote this song and put it out, and it was out maybe three months before they closed it. It pissed me off. Lyssna bara på Groovy Little Hippie Pad, Don't Tease Me, Heaven, Hell or Houston, Party on the Patio...Leila är en skön Thin Lizzy-ballad, men I Wanna Drive You Home smäller nog högst här. Pearl Necklace känns överskattad och Tube Snake Boogie är rock n' roll. Nää!

"ZZ Top ease into the eighties with the feet up, shades down, and spliff in hand sounds of El Loco, wide open spaces and wide toothed grins all over effortlessly grooving, subtly silly tracks like "Tube Snake Boogie," the funky mush-mouthed "Ten Foot Pole," and porno-punster, "Pearl Necklace." Other velvet upholstered rockers like the minimalist pulse of "I Wanna Drive You Home," and "Party on the Patio" sit comfortably next to oddities in the soft rock slow dances "It's So Hard" and "Leila" (yeah, I like this one) and electro weirdo "Groovy Little Hippie Dad." Kommentar: ZZ Top hade slagit hårt och spelades flitigt på MTV. Då beslöt de sig för att ge sig tillbaka till sina rötter, bluesen. Soundet är knappt modernt, för 1990-talet, dvs de är fortfarande kvar i 80-talets synth-trummor. 2000 blues är Gary Moore-blues, bra, gitarrdriven, "emotionell" MTV-blues. Concrete and Steel är en ok låt, men lider av dåligt (och daterat) ljud.
