Jag har rätt dålig koll på Springsteen. Åtminstone hade jag det innan jag begav mig in på detta självmordsuppdrag. Vem kan skriva om Bossen överhuvudtaget utan att bli anfallen till höger och vänster av gamla gubbar i jeans och loafers? Nä ok, kanske inte alla som lyssnar på Bruce är gamla gubbar i jeans och loafers. En del är faktiskt yngre åldringar i 50årsåldern, som bär utslitna jeans de lagat i skrevet 5 gånger. Alla jobbar inte på golvet och en del är till och med tjejer. En och annan hippie, förskolelärare, börsmäklare och oljemiljardär finns säkert där också. Bossen är ju allas man!

Nebraska, Atlantic City, Mansion on the Hill, Johnny 99, Highway Patrolman, State Trooper. A-sidan är snudd på perfekt. B-sidan börjar med två halvträkiga låtar, men avslutas fint med My Father's House och Reason to Believe.

"The man returning home from Vietnam and clearly seeing what his society has become. Wolfman fairies dressed in drag for homicide I feel is the new role of Heroin in post Vietnam 1970's. Wolfman Fairies are the dealers, disguised but amongst society... for homicide, symbolizing... to disguise their true evil.
Hit and Run meaning deal and get out... all of this while people's faith and religion is put on the back burner. "Everybody drinkin unholy blood..." is how the community in "the Bronx" has become. We then see the gunner himself doing heroin when he breathes deep. The important part of the song is the perspective of the man who is alive to see drugs destroy gunner, and then slowly destroy society... symbolizing the rising waters of the flood this man has witnessed.
The line that puts the comparison of war to a drug ridden society is "Have you thrown your senses to the war, or did you lose them in the flood?" The Flood began, gunner drowned in the flood, and it escalated slowly throughout the song. Quicksand symbolizing a degeneration and sinking which will continue slowly... unlike mud which you can easily take care of.
Dull Eyed and empty faced we find Gunner living life and slowly sinking.... in the background of the U.S in the 1970's. Gunner then crashes his car horribly and the flood ultimately usurps him. Clearly, "nothing left that you could sell" means that Gunner has sold all of his items for drug money. "Junk all across the horizon" symbolizing his fatal downfall because of the drug.
What was he thinking when he hit the storm, or was he just lost in the flood, informs us that indeed the feeling on the drug is "the flood", that gunner most likely was slowly drowning the entire time and may not have even had time to realize his degeneration.
The song then shifts......
Eighth Avenue Sailors in satin shirts whispering are still drug dealers (satin!?), we see a drug community, bronx's best apostle holding his hardware (gun) when the cops come flooding into battle the gang (the flood is taking over, the pitch crescendo's......... you can almost feel a titanic like rise in the background keyboard........ everything is out of control.
We now see the society and the world that usurped Gunner..... and are forced to remember that he was a nationalistic person.... a person fighting for this country which is under the flood. Leading us to ask what are we really fighting for?

Originaltiteln till Thunder Road var Wings For Wheels och började som en outtake som kallades Glory Road.

Blinded by the light är första låten på Bruce Springsteens debutplatta Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. Låten spelades sedan in av Manfred Mann's Earth Band och blev #1 på the Hot 100. För Springsteen själv floppade låten. "Indians in the summer" referar till baseballaget som han spelade i som barn.

Titellåten Born in the U.S.A. misstas ofta som en hyllning till USA, men den handlar egentligen om hur veteranerna från Vietnamkriget behandlades när de kom hem. Veteraner från andra krig hyllades och fick medaljer medan Vietnamveteranerna ignorerades och många av dem led av ptsd och andra svårigheter.
Den platsar dock inte här. No Surrender tar platsen istället.

Tom Morello gästar på This Depression. We Take Care of Our Own, This Depression, Wrecking Ball och Land of Hope and Dreams är ok låtar, men nu är väl de flesta ganska less på ny musik från bossen, va?
"Wrecking Ball, the title cut, is not a new song. The original "live" version has been previously released as a single. This is a great song, but the studio version sounds a bit weak. Darren (Aronofsky, director) sort of brought me back to just really wanting to be the best thing I could be. Året är 2019 och bossens röst börjar vackla. Åtminstone verkar den som producerat tycka det. Det har använts melodyn och pitchning för att få bossen att låta bättre. Det funkar givetvis inte och det låter istället syntet och tillrättalagt. Hitch Hikin skulle kunnat vara en hyfsad start på plattan, men passar istället som en enda lång gäspning. Western Stars är ivf en ok låt, även om stråkarna drar temat än mera åt en westernfilm. Bruce själv säger sig vara inspirerad av bl.a. Burt Bacharach och Glen Campbell på plattan.
Drive Fast (The Stuntman) etsar sig fast mest på min stigbygel även om örat skriker efter något mera vitalt. Tror jag får ta ett dygn eller två med krautplattor efter detta spektakel.

Efter att ha hört öppningslåten High Hopes har jag allt annat än hopp om att plattan ska vara bra. Tom Morello lirar gitarr, men det hjälper inte nämnvärt. Svaga låtar och oinspirerat. American Skin (41 Shots), Hunter of Invisible Game och The Wall är ok. Ghost of Tom Joad behövdes inte göras igen, Tom Morello gitarrsolo till trots.

Inspelat mellan 1997 - 2006. Fram med cowboybootsen, snusnäsduken och tuggtobaken för här ska dansas line dance! Banjo, saloonpiano, fiol och fotstomp står i fokus när Bruce lirar gamla låtar av Pete Seeger. Det är till en början inte alls min kopp te, men på tredjelåten Mrs McGrath är det svårt att inte ryckas med. Lyssna även till Erie Canal och Eyes on the Prize.

Bossen har här hunnit över 70-strecket. Tre av låtarna (Song for Orphans, If I Was a Priest och Janey Needs a Shooter) är övergivet material från 1972 när han skrev Greetings From Asbury Park och de är också bäst på plattan tillsammans med Ghosts och House of a Thousand Guitars.
"The song is a wild narrative with a Catholic/Wild West motif that imagines Jesus as a sheriff and Bruce as a priest...Springsteen places some biblical figures in unfamiliar territory, like the Virgin Mary running the Holy Grail saloon and the Holy Ghost hosting the burlesque show. Det dröjde tre år mellan Born to Run och Darkness on the Edge of Town. Bruce var på en bejublad turné i ett och ett halvt år, men under ytan grodde en konflikt med managern Mike Appel. Konflikten ledde till att de stämde varandra. Juni 1977 kunde bandet äntligen äntra studion igen efter att konflikten hade lösts.

4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy), Incident on 57th Street, Rosalita (Come Out Tonight), New York City Serenade är superba låtar! Kitty's Back är ett intressant försök till jazzrock och vem tyckte att bastuban var en bra ide på Wild Billy's Circus Story?
Jösses vilken låt New York City Serenade är. Låten klockar in på nästan 10 minuter. David Sancious lirar piano. Han blev sen ersatt av Steven Van Zandt på gitarr. Bruce påminner om en jazzig Van Morrison på plattan.
